Gaze Stabilisation:
This is the ability to maintain steady vision /
eye sight while the head and/or body is moving.
The vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) helps to provide gaze
stability when the head moves. The vestibular
system has the ability to adapt and make long term
changes when a problem occurs. Retinal slip (when the
eyes cannot stay fixed on an object when either it is
moving or the head is moving) is the signal for
adaptation to start occurring.
Balance Retraining:
Balance requires the integrated activity of three
sensory and motor systems. The body needs to be
able to acquire and interpret information being received
from the visual, proprioceptive and vestibular systems
and translate these signals into the ability to maintain
balance and postural stability. Training has to
cover static and dynamic balance.
Motion Sensitivity:
Treatment includes habituation techniques which is the
continual aggravation of symptoms until the brain learns
how to control them.
General Conditioning:
Treatment includes improving aerobic capacity, strength,
flexibility, reaction times and activities of daily
living. |
